Strengthening CTE Manufacturing and Engineering Technology Project
Funding: $250,000, Duration: 24 months
The City College Manufacturing and Engineering Technology (MFET) Program in collaboration with industry partners, high school partners and CSU Long Beach have designed a career path in MFET beginning in 9th grade through University transfer.

Project Highlights
  • MFET modules have been developed and allow high school students to earn college credit through Tech Prep and through direct college instruction (online and onsite). Modules are applicable to the MFET Associate degree.
  • Students from 4 local high schools (San Diego Unified - Madison, Southwest, San Diego and Patrick Henry) and from Sweetwater Unified Schools are currently enrolled in MFET modules.
  • High school students recently participated in a field trip to CSU Long Beach (CSULB) and learned more about CSULB's Bachelor's Degree program in Manufacturing Engineering Technology.
Upcoming Events
  • A "Lean Manufacturing" Seminar for secondary, post-secondary, and industry partners is scheduled for Spring 2008 as a follow up to the "Green" Manufacturing Seminar conducted in Fall 2007.
  • RoboRocks 2008, a robotics competition for high school students, is scheduled for May 7, 2008. Professional engineers and technicians have committed to being mentors to students and $4800 in scholarships will be awarded to the winning teams.
