SB 70 Funding Prospects
Workforce Innovation Partnership
Miramar College (Biotechnology): The purpose of this proposal is to develop and launch a new certificate pathway from high schools to community colleges for animal technicians. Based on the need for animal technicians determined by an environmental scan of the regional industry performed Oct. 2007, this project proposes to develop and launch entry level animal technician training.

No program as proposed exists in CA and only two exist nationally. A 60 hour entry level certificate program will be developed to build on the community collaborative biosciences project and use the Applied Biotechnology Center @ Miramar College (SCBC). Ongoing efforts by these initiatives include teacher training in order to transition high school graduates into the local industry. A defined CTE pathway with 3 levels of national certification career ladders will be developed for ROP, continuing education and community college biotechnology certificate students.
